School of Rock, the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program’s (IODP) successful educator training expeditions on the JOIDES Resolution, hosted a review summit for the first five cohorts of the program. The summit took place from July 31 – August 3, 2011 onboard the ship while it was in port in Curaçao. Fifteen educators from the United States and France were selected from the classes of 2005 and 2007 – 10 to participate in this unique opportunity. Participants were able to meet one another, share their experiences, discuss their participation in the program, and provide recommendations for future School of Rock operations. Participants also received additional instruction in science content and process from IODP scientists and shipboard technical staff, and helped to compile and review results from a recent survey of long-term impacts. Preliminary data indicate significant gains in content knowledge and translation to student and informal science education audiences.
