The Nautilus Science and Engineering Internship Program which aims to train community college, undergraduate, and graduate students studying ocean sciences, technology, engineering and video in the at-sea environment. Intern positions entail 2-5 week periods working aboard E/V Nautilus as Data Loggers, Seafloor Mappers, ROV Pilots, or Video Engineers. All interns spend their time on Nautilus working with a wide array of scientists, engineers, students, and educators. Science interns learn how to make scientific observations and process digital data and physical samples. ROV interns learn to maintain and operate our exploration vehicles and systems. Video engineering interns learn to operate video for our ROVs and work with our communications team to share our Nautilus story. All interns gain experience in communications and leadership, including participating in educational outreach activities.
Ocean Science Interns studying various science fields are trained in the at-sea environment. Science interns spend their time onboard working with a wide array of scientists, learning how to make scientific observations, log data in Nautilus systems, summarize dives, and preserve physical samples.
Seafloor Mapping Internship trains students in seafloor mapping data acquisition and processing techniques. Seafloor Mapping interns spend their time onboard working with a team learning how to acquire and process shipboard multibeam, sub-bottom and auxiliary data.
ROV Engineering Interns work with our ROV team, learning how to maintain and operate the ROVs Hercules and Argus.
Video Engineering interns learn to maintain and operate our on-board video system while also contributing to the website, which hosts live video and audio streams.
The Ocean Exploration Trust encourages a diverse pool of applicants including learners from traditionally underrepresented populations and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religious creed, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, ancestry, age, or handicap. All internships include a paid stipend for participation.
