Jeffrey Schuffert Named New USSSP Director

From Robert Gagosian, Ocean Leadership President: "I am pleased to announce the promotion of Jeff Schuffert as the new Director of the U.S. Science Support Program. Many of you have worked with Jeff over the years in IODP and most recently as the Associate Director of USSSP. Jeff has more than ten years of extensive experience with scientific drilling, beginning at Brown University where he participated on ODP Leg 178 to the Antarctic Peninsula. Jeff later supported scientific drilling overseas through science coordinating positions at GEOMAR, JAMSTEC and Hokkaido University in Sapporo. Arctic Ocean Workshop Application Period Open

The Arctic Ocean is crucial for understanding global ocean circulation processes and Mesozoic tectonics. The unexpected results derived from cores collected during the IODP’s Expedition 302 have exposed the ancient Arctic Ocean, providing the basis for further studies by framing new questions and by highlighting how little is known. This workshop will bring together an international group of scientists to plan future scientific ocean drilling expeditions to the Arctic Ocean.  All interested scientists, researchers, and students are encouraged to apply.
