National Oceanographic Partnership Program Honors 2011 Excellence in Partnering Award Recipients

Today, the National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP) presented the research team of the NOPP-funded project Exploration and Research of Northern Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Natural and Artificial Hard Bottom Habitats with Emphasis on Coral Communities: Reefs, Rigs, and Wrecks (also known as Lophelia II) with the 2011 Excellence in Partnering Award at a breakfast held at the MTS/IEEE Oceans ’12 Conference in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

NOPP-funded PIs Takemasa Miyoshi, Masaru Kunii, Eugenia Kalnay, and Hong Li published their seventh and eighth articles on Improving Tropical Cyclone Intensity Forecasting titled “Using AIRS retrievals in the WRF-LETKF system to improve regional numerical weather predication” in Tellus, and “Estimating and including observation error correlations in data assimilation” in Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering this month.

The NOPP Office was excited to announce the 2011 NOPP Excellence in Partnering Award winners in mid-August. Dr. Charles Fisher from Pennsylvania State University and Dr. James Brooks from TDI International, Inc. were recognized for their FY 2008 NOPP-funded project titled Exploration and Research of Northern Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Natural and Artificial Hard Bottom Habitats with Emphasis on Coral Communities: Reefs, Rigs, and Wrecks (also known as Lophelia II).
