Engine Room & Propulsion

On this Expedition:
On the RV Roger Revelle, my job includes several areas of responsibility. The position is classified as Oiler Maintenance Utility. I assist licensed engineers in monitoring, water, air-conditioning/heating, and electricity, maintaining the ship's propulsion, and repairing engine room machinery. Aboard the Revelle, there is a lot of equipment that we keep spares and backups for. See the article on the engine area for more details. During time between expeditions, many of us travel; it is a great way to see the world. This is a picture while I was in Thailand at the start of this expedition!

About myself:
I have worked with most of the equipment on the Revelle and I monitor all engines and running equipment. To do this, I check temperatures, pressures, fluid levels and check for any abnormalities. Since the equipment is complex, this requires both training and experience with the specific equipment that we use for scientific research.
For Students:
If you like to travel, and check out other cultures, this is for you!
I enjoy photography and video, so when I travel, I collect images and video clips, then when I have time and am not on watch, I make full length videos. I have a recent one that I did from when the Revelle was on an Antarctic cruise. It was great to film the huge icebergs and penguins up close. It is also cool because everyone that comes to sea has a reason that they like to be here.
Soon, you can go to a new photo page on the site where there will be photos from several countries I visited!
Here is some more information from the Captain on going to sea!
There is also a lot of information on the different positions at sea on
