On this Expedition:
As part of the petrology science group, I have a range of work that I do every day. We are a great international team because we have scientists from the UK, from the States, from Portugal, from India and from Cape Town! When we get rocks in from a dredge, we go to work sorting and cutting them. I like the work on deck the best and I help with most all of the deck operations. We do the dredge and also the seismics and magnetometer. When we get the rocks cut, we lay them all out, then group them and label everything. We all work shifts, but we stay as long as we need to get all the work done, and we help out with the geophysics watches too. Lots to do, and good people here. Geology rocks!

About myself:
I am a student in both geology and oceanography at UCT. Hard work, having fun and witty jokes come naturally to me. I like new experiences; that's why I'm here... even though I don't get paid!!
For Students:
I do it for the sense of exploration. It's the final frontier! In today's world, where almost everything's been done by someone before, the ocean offers us a place to be the first. We know more about the far side of the moon than we know about the ocean floor!
