On this Expedition:
On the RV Roger Revelle, my job includes several areas of responsibility. The position is classified as Oiler Maintenance Utility. I assist licensed engineers in monitoring, water, air-conditioning/heating, and electricity, maintaining the ship's propulsion, and repairing engine room machinery. Aboard the Revelle, there is a lot of equipment that we keep spares and backups for. See the article on the engine area for more details. The crew works as a team; in the photo below, we are testing the fire control systems on the front deck.
About myself:
I retired from the U.S. Navy Interior where I was a Communications Electrician Chief Petty Officer. After serving for 24 years, I retired December 2002. I had attended Paul Hall Maritime School in Piney Point, Maryland in January 2005 for training of Fireman/Oiler Water tenderman and have now been sailing in the Merchant mariner fleet for 25 months. I served on M/V Jean Anne (car carrier based in San Diego, Ca. that serviced the Hawaiian islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Kauai and Maui), M/V Patriot (car carrier based in Baltimore, Maryland that serviced northern Europe, Bremerhaven, Germany, Antwerp, Zubregee, Belgium and Southampton, England), M/V Liberty (car carrier based in Baltimore, Maryland that serviced northern Europe), and M/S Pride of America (cruise liner based in Honolulu, Hawaii).
For Students:
It is interesting to travel the world, meeting different people, seeing different places and to learn how and why the cultures around the world function as a society. You learn to appreciate what this beautiful world has to offer and to grow as a person. Visited, Perth, Darwin, Brisbane, Townsville, Sydney Australia, Palma, Alicente Spain, Cartegnia Spain, Turkey, Toulon France, Monaco France, Chinhae and Pusan Korea, Sasebo, Yokosuka, Nagasaki, Yokohama Japan, Crete Greece, Naples, Greta, Italy, Egypt, Suez Canal, Guam, Pattaya Beach, Phuket Thailand, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
