Brandi Murphy
Marine Geophysical Technician
Scripps Institution of Oceanography
University of California, San Diego (UCSD)
On this Expedition:
I work at all hours of the day and night with the seismic gear, the magnetometer, and lots of computers. Because I am a technician, this means that I specialize in a high-tech part of the ship that almost always needs care, attention, tuning and fixing. I teach the scientists how to work with this wonderfully complex gear. My job also includes helping teams of scientists while we are at sea with everything from learning about seismics to how to open a hatch (door). I sailed as a marine geology student before I started working as a tech; I really do understand and appreciate science work.

About myself:
I'm a scifi nerd who likes to knit when my hands are clean. I'm also a video game junky. If there was one thing I could take to sea with me, it would be my parents.
For Students:
The sea is the last frontier on our planet! The secrets down in the depths of the sea will unlock not only the past but the future.
