Program Update: National Oceanographic Partnership Program – September 2012
NOPP-funded PIs Takemasa Miyoshi, Masaru Kunii, Eugenia Kalnay, and Hong Li published their seventh and eighth articles on Improving Tropical Cyclone Intensity Forecasting titled “Using AIRS retrievals in the WRF-LETKF system to improve regional numerical weather predication” in Tellus, and “Estimating and including observation error correlations in data assimilation” in Inverse Problems in Science and Engineering this month. The Interagency Working Group on Ocean Partnerships (IWG-OP) met on September 11 at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. The Interagency Working Group on Facilities and Infrastructure’s (IWG-FI) Subcommittee on Unmanned Systems (SUS) met on September 12 at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. The full IWG-FI met at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership on September 18 and heard updates from their subcommittees and working groups on their progress. Both groups will meet again in late fall at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership.
The NOPP Office will be attending the MTS/IEEE conference in Virginia Beach, Virginia in mid-October. NOPP will be hosting a breakfast to honor the Excellence in Partnering award recipients and will also have a booth throughout the week. If you are attending, please stop by booth #1804 and say hi.
