Program Update: Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative – January 2015
January marks the beginning of the first quarter of research for the 12 Research Consortia awarded through the Request for Proposals (RFP-IV) in November of last year. More information on the details of these awards is now available on the Research Information Database (RIS), here.
The Request for Proposals (RFP-V) process is well underway. The deadline to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) was December 15, and 472 LOIs were received; full proposals are due on March 13, 2015. Learn more about this opportunity here. The purpose of this RFP is to select the research activities between January 2016 and December 2018, involving individual investigators or collaborative efforts comprising a principal investigator and up to three co-principal investigators. The total funds available for distribution will be approximately $9 million per year.
The 2015 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference will be taking place February 16-19, 2015 at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Houston, Texas. The goal of the 2015 conference is to highlight oil spill and ecosystem science research results focusing specifically on the five years since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Presenters will seek to answer the questions, “What have we learned, what does it mean and how can it be used?” Registration is still available, and we are expecting to have another large turnout for this, our third Annual conference.
