Program Update: Deep Earth Academy – September 2013
This month, Deep Earth Academy launched two new activities for STEM instructors to use in their classrooms. Both include detailed teacher’s guides and supplemental information available for download. The first kit, Investigating Seafloor Sediments-Proceed as a Scientist, invites students to investigate the question “What makes up the seafloor?” using equipment to analyze sediments and test hypotheses. The second kit, Using the Cretaceous Impact Kit to Teach the Process of Science, includes interactive materials and images for interpreting a core replica (available for loan) that documents the boundary between the Cretaceous and Paleogene – marked by the meteorite impact that killed the dinosaurs.
