Deep Earth Academy (DEA) hosted two workshops for Washington, D.C. Public School teachers focused on activities that emphasize the Next Generation Science Standards’ science and engineering practices. DEA also published Gallery Walk – an Introductory Activity, based on the work Jon Lewis (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) did with School of Rock earlier this year. DEA’s Jennifer Collins gave a talk at the Geological Society of America meeting in Denver, Colorado entitled, “Cutting edge science meets the Science Flow Chart to aid teachers and students in the Next Generation Science Standards paradigm shift.” DEA also opened its Apply to Sail application process for three 2014 expeditions on the JOIDES Resolution. One Education Officer from the U.S. will be selected to sail on each expedition. Information and applications are available here.
