Deep Earth Academy (DEA) hosted a three-day Regional Rocks professional development workshop for local teachers at Ocean Leadership. Led by DEA staff and geoscientist Debbie Thomas (Texas A&M), participants were immersed in IODP science and activities related to climate change and the Next Generation Science Standards. Earlier in the month, teachers participating in the Smithsonian Science Education Academies program came to Ocean Leadership for an afternoon of hands-on activities and a live broadcast with the JOIDES Resolution. DEA also provided three hour-long sessions for Howard County, Maryland science teachers during their back to school professional development work day, and led a discussion among Challenger Center for Space Science Education leaders using IODP science to highlight the Next Generation Science Standards practices.
