Charna Meth joined Ocean Leadership in 2006 as an Assistant Director with the US Science Support Program (USSSP). In this role, she manages many of USSSP’s community engagement activities, including the workshop program, Distinguished Lecturer Series, and Schlanger Ocean Drilling Fellowships. She also works closely with other programs to integrate USSSP into organization-wide efforts in diversity, education, and communications. Charna’s work prior to Ocean Leadership also concentrated on communications and management of large, interdisciplinary research projects. She was the Communications and Administration Manager for EarthScope, an NSF MREFC project examining the structure and evolution of the North American continent. At the American Geological Institute, she worked in science policy, monitoring legislation for the geoscience community. Before moving to DC, Charna was at the University of Texas’s High-resolution X-ray Computed Tomography Laboratory, where she processed CT data on everything from modern-day coelacanths to ancient meteorites. While in Austin, she also earned a BS and MS in Geologic Sciences and indulged in living in the live music capital of the world.
