Sea Level Workshop, Salt Lake City UTIt has been 15 years since the last planning workshop for reconstructing the history of long-term sea-level changes. Since then, significant progress in sea-level reconstruction has been made through ocean drilling on the New Jersey and Australian margins and the Bahamas, through onshore drilling, and through outcrop studies. Recent drilling advances, including the use of mission-specific platforms, together with new views on the roles of tectonics and sediment dynamics, are converging for a reevaluation of the fundamental assumptions used in sea-level studies. To review past results in sea-level research and foster new proposals and collaborations, the Joint Oceanographic Institutions, IODP-Management International, International Continental Scientific Drilling Program, DOSECC, and the Chevron Corporation are sponsoring the workshop Drilling to Decipher Long-term Sea-level Changes and Effects.
