Benjamin Chicoski: ORRAP Special Assistant, CORE Research Division![]() Tel: (202) 448-1222 Email: bchicoski@oceanleadership.org Benjamin Chicoski began working at CORE in March 2004, initially as Research Assistant and later advancing to the position of NOPP Program Coordinator. More recently, he was given the job of Special Assistant to the ORRAP. Before joining CORE, he conducted field research into marine mammal acoustics and worked in the Office of Protected Resources at NOAA, where he analyzed and amended permits issued by OPR for research on and public display of marine mammals. Ben manages NOPP program grants and contracts selection process, helps to secure external funding for research programs, develops briefing materials for federal agency and extramural oceanographic community committees, and works to expand CORE’s role in the community. He is responsible for the efficient operation of the ORRAP. His professional interests include transitioning research results to applications, interagency collaboration, and humpback whale acoustics. Ben received his B.A. from Georgetown University in 2002 and is on track to complete his M.S. in Environmental Sciences and Policy from Johns Hopkins University in early 2008. He counts surfing, underwater photography, heavyweight boxing history, Scotch whisky production and judo among his (admittedly eclectic) personal interests.
