Susan Haynes joined Ocean Leadership as the Director of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) in 2004. Susan manages all aspects of the NOSB program with oversight by the organization’s Education Director, Dr. Susan Cook. Prior to joining the Ocean Leadership team, Susan spent 6.5 years as a Sea Grant marine education specialist at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, School of Marine Science, College of William and Mary. There her responsibilities included the development of research-based marine science programs, workshops and courses for teachers; secondary outreach education; cooperative projects with other organizations; and regional coordination of the Blue Crab Bowl, the Virginia Regional Ocean Sciences Bowl. Susan’s career path has included being the director of a mid-Atlantic nature center and an education specialist at the Oregon Coast Aquarium and at the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Susan has a B.S. in Zoology and M.A. in Environmental/Adult Education from the University of Rhode Island. She brings 20 years of experience in informal marine science education to her current position.
