A very important part of our mission at Ocean Leadership is to promote the value of innovative, collaborative ocean science research, and advocate for the important member organizations who perform it. Events like the upcoming Public Policy Forum provide a perfect opportunity for this (please register soon!)
Next week, the Oil Spill & Ecosystem Science Conference will take place in Tampa, Florida. I’m looking forward to not only hearing from over 800 scientific experts about the latest oil spill and ecosystem science discoveries, technologies, and policies, but also having the chance to interact with so many people focused on such an critically important field. Attendees from academia, state & federal agencies, NGOs and industry will all be present throughout the week to focus on the sustainment of a healthy gulf environment, community and economy.
I will also take advantage of the geographic opportunity and visit COL members, Mote Marine Laboratory and the University of South Florida. I am committed to learning as much as possible about ocean science and technology research efforts by our member institutions in the coming months. This will enable me and our team here to more effectively advocate and promote the important work by ALL organizations. I look forward to engaging all of them – virtually or in person – to this end. I also invite member organizations to contact me so we can set aside some time to do this.
