JOI Diversity MSPHDs: Where We've Been - Shanghai Science Steering and Evaluation Panel (SSEP), Shanghai,
P.R. China
Two undergraduate and three graduate students participated
in the May 2005 SSEP meeting held in Shanghai, China.
During their time in Shanghai, students participated
in the
review of science proposals
submitted
to the IODP, gained insights into the proposal review process
and what goes into the development of world-class science,
received
mentoring
from the U.S. scientists on the panel, networked with scientists
from
all over
the world,
and
explored
the sites of Shanghai and nearby Suzhou, an old city famous
for its silk industry and for the many ancient Chinese gardens
that survived Mao's Cultural Revolution of the 1960s. See
the students' presentation on
their experience.
